84 Grand Marquis EGR Cooler - Ford Forums

We've got a 302 that we are about to replace the EGR. However there was excessive carbon build-up on the cooler as well. Contacted Ford, they said the original cooler isn’t available, but there is a replace. It’s similar, but doesn’t use coolant, seemed very expensive and it’s a no return purchase. Has anyone had any luck cleaning the an original cooler or an alternate location then Ford to purchase one?<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>

It's not a cooler - it's a throttle de-icer, and yes: it can be rinsed with carb cleaner. If it's blocked in the coolant journals, use a flexible wire in the nipples to try to break it up, followed by hi-pressure air or water.
