Have a pitman arm seal leak on my 85 GM and instead of replacing the seal, I was offered a completely rebuilt Crown Vic (80s) steering box ($200+ for rebuild) and was told the two are inter-changeable although the CV has a quicker turning ratio - otherwise they are said to be the same.
My question is, are the two input shaft splines the same size? I hate to remove the original SB and find out the CV SB has a different spline size that won't match the steering column now in the car. Otherwise, I'll have to do a junk yard replacement ($100) that who knows how long it will last. Can't pass up a completly rebuilt box for free if the splines match up.
Yea, tried Lucas stop leak but the seal is too far gone and the Lucas only slows the leak down some. Still not bad for 240,000 miles
