86' Crown Vic - Ford Forums - Mustang Forum, Ford Trucks, Ford Focus and Ford Cars

Hey world,
Im new to this forum and was looking for some help with my grannies car. She has 86 Vic 5.0 Liter and she needs a few things. First on her intrument panel her shift indicator is broken so when she puts the car in drive or reverse it just sits and she doesnt know what gear she's in until sh'es tried them all...So she needs one of those if you know where I can find it...if there is a individual park to fix it or just replace the whole guage

Second, when it rains she rolls up the window and gets rained on, therefore she needs new rubber seals for her two front doors.

Hopefully these parts are avaliable and someone knows how I can help my 80 yr old granny! Thanks

The local junk yard will have the gear shift indicator. I would go new for the weather stripping. You should be able to get a kit from your local PEP BOYS or similar place.

Maybe a universal kit would work for as long as she is going to drive.

On the gear shit indicator it might be that the little wire is broken. You said the needle just stays in park? I bet that thin little wire is broken...

What normally happens is that the plastic collar that goes around the shifter sleeve on the steering column breaks. Best way to fix it is with zip ties...seems like sort of a crappy way to do it, but it works. You'll find the plastic collar down on the steering column somewhere around the level of the fusebox or so. Very common problem on these cars.
