Hit a deer tonight with my 86 Maroon GM. :BW:
Just got it 2 months ago too 130K when i got it, 133K now.
front driver side header is trashed. driver door got bent opening it because the fender got shoved back. The trick there is to get a wood block and you can bang the fender forward by hitting it at the windshield base. You dont want to know how i know this , but ill tell you anyway.
About 7 years ago I hit a deer with my 89 CV almost in the same area, maybe 5 miles away! I think I hate deer at this point. Anyway, white 89 has a maroon header on it, looks funny but works. I think the header will fit the 86, but the bumper has to go with it. not sure. Any ideas?
89 is being junked, parted out, 256,000 on it!
I really wanted to make 300K, but I just cant justify it. Fuel tank has seam leaks, that are patched and leaking, thus it needs a tank, and then i might as well do the pump. Thats $400 when im done with it. Needs radiator, injectors are marginal, so it needs them too. Rear end is very loose, clunks into gear. water pump is shot. Wouldnt be surprised if distributor is no good. So for $1000+ put in, i still wouldnt have a car,
Hence i bought the 86 for $250! put $300 worth of lines into it and it has been fine since. Very nice car. until tonight Anyone have a 86 GM that they are parting?
GM has a few other problems as well, EGR valve is leaking fumes, esp when i step on brake. Was planning to replace from 89. Thermactor has a rotted valve, coolant temp sensor is no good, will get both from 89. Engine light flickers on at idle after engine is fully warm, a good 12 miles. Also car seems to be exceptionally full of water, when its cold it is belching white vapor. seems to go away when its the outside temperature is warm enough.
Thanks,
Nova
