Is the air pump necessary on my car, it is a 5.0 by the way. I don't know if anyone can tell me anything due to it being an emissions part, but I'd like to eliminate it. I know I have removed them in the past, but it was a really long time ago. Thanks.

It's not necessary in order to make the car run right, no. Now, depending on where you're located, you may need it present in order to pass a visual inspection. Even if you need to pass the exhaust "sniffer", it won't make any difference as long as the car is thoroughly warmed up before you take it in for the test. The basic function of the air pump is to warm up the catalytic converters faster so that they start working sooner.

Oh, my name is Nathan also, I prefer Nate.
I pulled the belt off of the A/C and air pump yesterday, a/c not working and air pump just a waste in my opinion. We'll see what that does for my fuel economy. My first tank of gas I got 11.61 mpg, pretty crappy. So far it looks like this tank is going to be much better.

Probably won't make much difference for fuel economy...if you only got 11 mpg with an EFI panther, something has to be pretty seriously wrong. When's the last time this car had a tuneup?
