yeah, you need a spring lock tool. you can get cheap ones at the parts store for about $9. often the connectors corrode together internally and be a huge PITA to get apart.
by low side filter, I assume you mean the orifice tube. not sure on your model car, but on the 91 and older (box body) cars the orifice tube goes in the line going to the evaporator core. this line sticks up at a 45 degree angle directly under the dryer on the passenger side firewall. I used a pair of long needle nose pliers and twisted, came right out.
