Question 92 GM LS Accel Problem

Hello, new here and hoping someone can help me out.

Just running a standard 92 GM LS 4.6L non PI 160k

While in the range of 20-60 KM/H it seems to want to "lag" and not respond. The lag generally lasts around 2-3 seconds but in that time it doesn't want to accel anymore than what it's already at. If I hammer on the gas it will respond more quickly but will always take a second to register and off I go.

Sorry if it isn't specific but if anyone knows what causes this or how I can look about this, help is greatly appreciated.

When were the plugs last checked/changed ? If not that , check timing.

Vacuum leak? Is the transmission responding the way it should?

Re: 92 GM LS Accel Problem

Haven't checked the plugs, although they were done earlier of 2012 by the previous owner. No leaks, no check engine light. Transmission shifts fine although with the gear ratio the shift between 1 and 2 seems a bit soon and drags in second.

May be related but at idle if it sits for too long it clicks and starts idling at a higher rpm for a few seconds and then drops back down. This repeats about every minute or two that I sit idle, consistently.

I plan on going over everything myself eventually, currently im lacking tools of my own and a garage, however have access to both if need be.

Re: 92 GM LS Accel Problem

Wondering more about the build date for the car . 1992 had 2 different transmossions . Early models had aod type & the later 1992s had aode . The early model with aod had grommet that needs replaced or can fry transmission . It connects pressure cable of transmission to throttle body . other issue for idle may be the idle air control valve is gummed up & needs removed to be cleaned

Re: 92 GM LS Accel Problem

Thanks for the advice so far guys.

Been busy lately but this weekend I'll be going over the plugs and checking my wiring (just in case something came loose). I'll update later this weekend hopefully solving this.

I'll double check the manufactured date and IAC. Not sure about the type of transmission.

Re: 92 GM LS Accel Problem

So I'm thinking of going through with the plugs, does anyone know where I can find a diagram or something to identify/confirm the firing order?
