While my car sits, awaiting its manifold swap, I've been fiddling with a friends 93 Crown Vic. Yesterday I changed his plugs and wires and now the battery light is on on the dashboard. Had the battery and alternator checked and both are good. Lights don't seem dim or anything, and the car starts up with a bump of the key. I think the guy said the battery was steady at 12.4-12.5. Nothing else was disturbed under the hood while doing the plugs(other than a fuel injector I bumped with the ratchet and is now leaking). Any ideas on why the battery light would remain on? Thanks
Check the wires on the alternator to see if they are connected tightly. Otherwise, check for the volts right out of the alternator. You can get check the wiring diagram for free at Autozones website.
His tensioner and idler pulley were squealing really bad, so we changed them, and now there's no more battery light. Guessing the belt wasn't spinning the alt. fast enough because of the bad pulleys?
