Anyone have any semi inexpensive solution for the following problem?
Bought my 94 Crown Vic new--at 3000 miles-got shutter from trans going into overdrive. They changed the fluid, things were OK for a while. Then I had to change the fluid every year-@ 9000 miles per year driving. Now at the 100K mark, I am getting about 3 months out of a change before it starts again. COnstant acceleration, not nec. hard, with the final change at or about 40 mph fells like a horrendous washboard. Aprreciate any help!!

I just went through this same problem with my 95 CV. It seems all the converters back then had the same problem. My trany guy told me that in the beginning the fix was a bunch of parts to the tune of $1,000. Then someone came out with a cheaper fix at about $400. Finally they discovered the problem was the oil. So what he did to mine was drain the oil and refill it with synthetic (sp) and added a bottle of some special additive. It worked. The only problem was he found a lot of filings stuck to the pan magnet. We decided to run the new oil for 6 months and then we'll pull the pan and see if any more filings have collected. If so it looks like converter time. I forget what the additive was, but I'm sure any good trany shop will be familiar with the Ford converter problem and will know what the additive is. If not, let me know and I'll go over and get the name and brand info.
