frown 95 Crown Vic Interceptor fuel gauge stopped working.

My brother had the Crown Vic out today and all of a sudden the fuel gauge went to empty. I would really appreciate some info on what to check if someone had this same problem. It has about 180,000 miles on it and still running strong. The gauge does not move at all. Thanks!

There's an open in the circuit from the gauge to the sender, sender open, or ground from the sender. Here's the diagram for the circuit.

Well I found another problem. The gas tank is leaking. It looks like from the seam on the bottom. Going to order a new tank and go from there. Sorry I started this thread without all the information. Thanks for the info and will follow up after installing new tank.

Not a problem, it's good to see what all to check before you get started. Keep us informed.

confused Re: 95 Crown Vic Interceptor fuel gauge stopped working.

I have a question. One of the straps was broken on the fuel tank and I removed the piece of metal from the bracket. (See Pic) What is used to secure the strap when it is an aftermarket part? I can see that there is one hole in the side of the bracket.

You may need to fabricate something and\or do some welding. Not sure how the CV did it, but I've seen them bolted both sides and I've seen them bolted on one side and sort of hinged on the other with something similar to what you're showing. Hopefully someone with more CV\GM experience can weigh in with a better answer.

That is the one side hinged type. When the bolt is removed, the pin slides out the side to remove the strap. Usually you just swing the straps away. Looks like the area where the pin slides in is rusted away.

Re: 95 Crown Vic Interceptor fuel gauge stopped working.

Actually the area where the pin slides in is in good shape. I just need to find out where to get some pins to slide through the ends of the new strap to secure it. I've been looking on the internet but haven't come up with anything. If you look at the new straps one end is folded over and it appears that a pin of some sort is needed to install it.

I'm pretty sure they are the same.
