97 crown vic problem

I am new to the forums, hopefully this is the right place for this!

I have a 1997 Ford Crown Victoria LX. I puchased it used in 2005...Ever since then, it has been having a problem when accelerating, it feels like it misses, sometimes it shakes the car...it used to make a loud clicking noise...and the check engine light used to come on......our local mechanic has never seemed to fix the problem...he has changed the plugs and wires twice, thinking that would fix it...

it is most prevalent when I am accelerating slowly, when i give it a lot of gas/i.e. press harder on the pedal, it doesn't do it...

it also does it when i set the cruise when i go up a hill...

Have you gotten any codes due to the Check Engine Llight? How many miles are on it? You might have a dirty or defective MAF. Try some MAF cleaner and see if it helps.

well, the check engine light hasn't been on for quite some time now...and I don't remember if the mechanic said anything about what code it was....

Ill check the MAF...I'll have to do some research as to what it actually is?
