Question 97 Grand Marquis /check eng light

Check eng light came on. dose anyone know how to get trouble codes with out the scanner tool?
Car runs great but I need to find out why check engine light is on.

If you have an AutoZone in your city, they will pull the codes for free.

Since your car has OBD II, I don't believe you can trigger a reading as you could with the older computers.

yeah,,autozone will b able to run the code,,
but it mightnot pinpoint what the prob is
i have a check engine light now
autozone check comes up with p1151
which in their system,,means,,,the pre-cat o2 sensor on the pass side cyl's is sensing its running lean

so i have a appt at ford to get that pointed out,
hopefully its cheap

There is a way to read the code with out a scan tool but I forget how to. But it would just be easyer to take it to autozone to get the code.
