97 grand marquis wont start

hey guys, i have a 97 grand marquis that wont turn over when you try to start it, all we hear is a noise coming from the black box on the driver side( sorry im not mechanic saavy) thats located right above the wheel. It sounds like a winding noise, me and my dad think its possibly something electrical and thats something he is not knowledgable about. any opinions guys?

Depends? How loud is the winding noise? The solenoid in your starter may be bad and not allowing the gear to engage the flywheel and turn the engine over. Your fix might be to have the starter re-built or replaced.

Re: 97 grand marquis wont start

see thats we thought at first too, but then my dad says he doesnt thinks so, but we're jacking it up on wednesday to see if its getting power to it or if its bounded up then tap it with a mallet. could you give me a ballpark figure on a rebuilt starter after core charge?

I wouldn't know for your make and model, but just check out Autozone online or Advance auto parts, they will give you the best estimate on parts cost.

Re: 97 grand marquis wont start

Could be as simple as a bad or poorly charged battery.
