I hope someone can help with this really annoying problem. I have a 99 crown vic with 211k miles on it, just recently it started this really odd thing. Once the gas gauge gets to half a tank, it starts missing and losing power. I have replaced the gas cap as suggested by a mechanic, and this has not fixed the problem. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

i know that once my 99 crown vic started missing and losing power so bad that I couldn't even drive it. So i had it towed in and mechanics put a new fuel pump in it and its ran great ever since. But a new fuel pump installation is quite expensive because they have to take the fuel tank off to get at it.
