99 Ford Crown Vic

Have a 1999 Crown Vic blowing the number 13 fuse that controls the gauges in the dash cluster as soon as you put the car in drive.Any ideas on what it can be?

Oh by the way its an police package.

Re: 99 Ford Crown Vic

Couple of goofy ideas (but then, that's my job), what happens when you put it in drive electrically speaking? Does it have the auto door locks when placed in drive? If so, are the door locks on the same circuit? maybe a short there. Or, perhaps the linkage pulling on a wire causing short (really out there I know). I'm trying to think what else is electrically triggerd when you put the trans in drive....hmmm? If not the door lock thing, then I'd start by getting to the wiring cluster near or on the steering column (under the dash) and seeing if I could spot unprotected wires there. Just a start. Good luck

Column shifter for the PI... likely a wire has rubbed bare and grounded out. Tear out the column plastic and see if you can find any wires under the dash, particularly around the shifter shaft.
