99 ford crown vic wiper stays up when off - Ford Forums - Mustang Forum, Ford Trucks, Ford Focus and Ford Cars

hello, i have a 99 ford crown vic with 77k. my wipers work properly on all speeds, but when i stop them there is a click and the wipers do not go down below the windshield. they stay up in the vertical position. any help appreciated. thank you.

I have a 96 crown vic that did the same thing.There is a part in or on the wiper motor that controls the "parking"(stopping) of the wipers.As far as I know the part can"t be fixed or repaired, the wiper motor has to be replaced
(bad design, yes?) This was my only option. Your local dealer should be able to tell you if this is the problem.(I hate my local dealer too!!!!HAHA Actually they have treated me quite well).
Let me know how things work out.

thank you for the reply. wiper motor park position broke. replaced wiper motor. common problem.

Isn't there some kind of end of stroke switch inside those?

the shaft broke. when it breaks it will not hold the wipers down in the park position. i found out that it is a very common problem. replace the motor and it will be fine.

My motor on my '89 still doesn't go down... but mine still tries, so I get a fancy whining sound at all times when the wipers are off. I guess I could just fix it, but that would make too much sense...

it wouldnt have bothered me because the wipers still worked properly, but they stood straight up all the time when they were not in use. hard to see.
it is a simple job. 1 think theres 6 or 8 bolts that hold the cowl down. remove them, 3 bolts that hold the motor, remove them, unplug the harness and take it out. 30-40 minute job at most and im no mechanic.

Yeah- I know it doesn't take much, but I've been caring for more important problems, like oil leaks, exhaust leaks, vacuum leaks, and transmission swaps.
