Best mpg

I just got back from a nice road trip in the marquis. Went from Ontario to Nebraska and back, and I was impressed with my mpg. Open road I averaged 28.1 mpg. Just curious what everyone else was getting. Thats with a 98 GM stock except a k & n airfilter.

Re: Best mpg

I intentionally checked my 2003 Grand Marquis the other day on a 170 mile run with some in town driving included and got 27.7 MPG.
This has been about the norm for this car but I've gotten as high as 28.9 on long all highway runs. It never seems to get much less than 26 even around town here but I don't do much stop and go driving.
I also have an '03 Crown Vic that only gets about 25 tops on the highway and averages about 18 around town. Both have the same engine code but the CV has the handling package and a few more options. The CV is a bit faster off the start too. The GM has 4,700 miles on it and the CV has 55,000 on it.
I also have an 1987 which I will most likely sell soon with 105k on it that averages in the 22mpg range overall and has gotten as high as 25 on long trips. I don't drive that one much since finding the newer 03 model last spring.

Re: Best mpg

my old 94 with 3.08 gears used to hit 30-31mpg on those long trips. it was a dog though.

my current car is a lot of fun, but will only get about 25mpg on a long trip.

Re: Best mpg

I was impressed with a high speed run from Tonopah, NV. to Hawthorne NV. on HWY 95. I kept it at 90 mph when traffic and conditions allowed and got 25.3 MPG. From Hathorne to Lodi CA. going down Carson pass We clicked an impressive 29.5 MPG.

Around town with the new exhaust I get about 23 MPG because I like the sound she makes now...
