Trooper's Vehicle Catches Fire On I-4

TAMPA -- A Florida Highway Patrol car caught fire on Interstate 4 near the Ford Amphitheatre on Sunday morning.

The fire occurred about 10:45 a.m., soon after Trooper Kristopher Tripp responded to a three-vehicle crash. Tripp parked in the freshly mowed grass area between the interstate's northbound and southbound lanes. The grass caught underneath his 2005 Ford Crown Victoria heated up and caught fire, Sgt. Ricky Glover said.

Tripp's vehicle was ruined, but he wasn't injured, Glover said

I have a friend whose 1979 TransAm had the same problem. His long-tube headers left burn marks any time he parked in the grass, so he quit doing it for fear of his car catching (and too many people asking him to pay for yard repairs).
