charging system warning light

The battery warning light has been comming on intermitantly for over a year on my 1998 Crown Victoria despite the fact the battery is sound and the voltage gauge shows proper voltage. How can I remedy this as I am selling the car and I would like it to function properly?

Re: charging system warning light

Test the alternator to see if it faulty. If you put a voltage tester on the battery terminals while it is running and accessories on, you should have
13.5-14.5 volts. If you don't, the alt. is probably at fault.

I haven't checked it, but wouldn't I have had trouble with the battery or the alternator by now if there was a problem? My gut instinct is that whatever triggers that light is faulty as this has been going on for a year now.

Re: charging system warning light

The 'battery warning light' normally indicates that your alt. is not charging properly!! Most parts stores don't charge to test your charging system. You could wait till it fails completely, leaves you possibly stranded with a tow bill, and possibly the cost of a battery too.
