Re: Cold air intake

That's a HOT air intake since it pulls what's in the engine bay. The factory one was cold.

Re: Cold air intake

cold air helps increase power... hot air actually improves mileage. you need fresh air getting to it to help with more power. the cold air wont be much improvement in power to really be noticed. only difference that will be noticed is the tone of the engine and the ability to hear the air being sucked in

Re: Cold air intake

Steve is correct-O-mundo, that's NOT a cold air intake. A true cold air intake routes into a wheel well or under the front bumper to pull in outside air.

Plus, if you read the fine print on a cold air intake system, you'll see that the HP increase they promise doesn't come until you get to about 4,500 RPM. How often do you drive at that RPM?

I'm sure you got your money's worth cuz of the vroom vroom sound, but you didn't pick up much in performance.

Re: Cold air intake

You need to bring air in from ahead of the radiator. A fan would just blow hot air at it from the engine compartment.

Re: Cold air intake

I saw somewhere that they put the K&N filter in the original airbox. The sound wasn't there but the filter fit inside.

Re: Cold air intake

Put the stock filter box back in, and buy a drop-in filter that fits it. K&N or one of the newer dry washables.

Getting more power from that early 4.6L won't be easy or cheap. Its intake system is perfectly fine for what it is, but you can't get much more from it. When the engine goes, look for an '01-up engine with the PI (Performance Improved) heads. It'll take some rewiring to make it work RIGHT, but it's worth the effort, IMO. For the best stock performance, look for a Marauder engine, as complete as you can get.
