Re: Crown Vic Engine Misfire

Well I finally got around to replacing the EGR with a brand new one today and the damn car is still missing under light acceleration and between 40 and 50 mph. This is starting to anger me. I don't know what to do now besides take it in to a profressional and I don't have the extra $ laying around at the moment.

I am not really sure what else could be causing this. Perhaps I should just invest in some new hoses and replace all of them. I heard that a small pinhole in one of the vaccum hoses could cause a problem similar to what I am experiencing.

Re: Crown Vic Engine Misfire

take it easy Mr. Deeplist... I think your problem is one of these:
-A bad COP----------------first likely
-A bad COP connection----second likely
-Clogged fuel injectors----Third likely
-Crappy gasoline----------Fourth likely

Check the COPs for any cracks on the side, if you find one its faulty and needs replacing. Also, try switching the COPs around and see if you find a pattern with the misfiring cylinders. Try checking the connectors too.

When I clean fuel injectors I buy LucasOil Fuel injector cleaner(it comes in small and big clear bottles.) Now, instead of pouring it into the fuel tank, remove the fuel injectors and place them in a little bowl where they may be submerged in the fuel injector cleaner(if you can, remove the external dirt with an old t-shirt but don't use any cleaning agents.) Leave them in the bowl marinating for as long as you can. (I usually leave them in for 24 hours, you need to give the product time to break down the sludge inside.) After that, remove the fuel injectors one by one and dry them off with an old t-shirt. Put them back on and turn it on!
Note. the fuel injectors are filled with oil and the engine will burn it initially, so don't get scared by the smoke coming out of the tailpipe!

Gasoline can cause a misfiring but not a location specific misfiring.

Re: Crown Vic Engine Misfire

I certainly appreciate the reply. All 8 of the COPs are brand new. I replaced the spark plugs at the same time. I replaced the EGR last week, the "vacuum leak" seemed to disappear but it didn't really help with the missing.

Last Sunday I bought some of the lucas stuff that you were referring to. I dumped it into the fuel tank and then refilled. So far I have drove down about ¼ of the tank and I can notice a HUGE difference. I have pretty much come to the conclusion that the missing was caused by clogged injectors or bad gasoline like you mentioned. Maybe I should use another station. About 90% of the time I use Speedway gasoline and I always put Premium in there.

I'll drive down the rest of this tank and see how it goes. I may have to take your advice and remove the injectors and clean them externally (especially since I can't afford brand new ones just yet).
