Crown Vic Wheel Offsets: Police vs. Consumer

As all know, the Crown Vic has been produced for years in both a commercial/police/taxi package and in a consumer package. In the early years it may have been probable that both used the same wheels. At some point, police requested beefier wheels to handle curbs, etc. and the commercial package soon came with stronger rims and tires. The offset changed as a consequence of the redesign of this wheel. At some point as well, the wheels of the consumer package were changed and so did the offset of each wheel. Please correct any of this, because my understanding (or lack thereof) of the history of the Crown Vic wheel is quite important to my predicament.

There are several questions to this issue. Did the offset of the commercial and the consumer models change in the same years? Did they change to the same measurements for each package? As the package models become newer, do the offsets go in different directions, i.e. is the offset of new commercial models low now while the offset for new consumer models high now? Can you tell the offset of a Crown Vic by just knowing the year of manufacture or must you also know the type of package as well?

Re: Crown Vic Wheel Offsets: Police vs. Consumer

The offset for the wheels are all the same no matter what package you have as long as they are the same year or same style Crown Vic to my knowledge. The only time the offset will change is when the tire size is changed. Also if there is a practicular year Crown Vic wheel offset I may be able to get it for you but as of now all i have is the offset for a 1990 CV from wheel size 15x7-18x8.5.

First of all, thanks for your quick response.

But, the issue I'm having deals exactly with different styles. The police/taxi package sold under the commercial division of Ford is a completely different style than the regular consumer style/edition any of us can buy at our local dealer. If that's the case, then do you still feel that the offsets are the same for the police vs. consumer models even for the same years?

Re: Crown Vic Wheel Offsets: Police vs. Consumer

All CVs have the same wheel off-set, the only differnt years maybe is 93-01 due to a change in the rear axle but very little change. Years 79-92 police/taxi and civillian all used the same axle, the police had the option of a 351 instead of a 302 so ford did beef the drive train but did not change offsets or any specs for that metter, just harder shocks with wider rims for the 351. Now, 02-05 CVs are a differnt off-set due to package options but police/taxi and civilien have the same options as Ive been told by the ford dealer. I to wondered about the specs about a year ago when looking at a 04 CV on the A-lot, I passed, I don't like the tail-lights and headlights, theres just soming about quad headlights amd stripped tail-lights with me. Later.
