Hello Bert
I've been looking at various parts dealers here for front shocks for my 98 crown vicky.They said various prices depending which model,police,cab,civilian or touring sedan.I asked how I could tell if I have a touring sedan,they didn't know.What makes a crown vicky a touring sedan?Any car can be called a touring sedan If you drive around the country.Is it a special towing package Bert?

Ford shows 3 versions, Police/Taxi, Standard, Handling. I don't know how you'd find what your is but I'd guess standard. Police and taxi are easy to tell. I'm not familiar with the handling package. On our fleet cars we used KYB shocks and the drivers really noticed an improvement in handling.

Thanks Bert,there is some confusion up here at Canadian Tire.Their listing for Motorcraft shocks include Touring Sedan.

The Police suspension is super heavy duty. Look for the P71 in the VIN. These parts are made for partial off-road and long-time use.

The Handling version is the LS, which had mixed parts from the standard and the police versions. Just a touch heavier-duty than the standard without getting too harsh.

The standard is the touring version. Super soft ride.

Personally, forget all shocks

except for Ford/Motorcraft and Ac/Delco shocks. They will outlast the other brands big-time before needing replacement.

go with what Bert says... i work at a shop and all we install is KYB shocks and struts... yes they might be more than some others, but we never had complaints after the repairs. they are quality parts without the brand name.
