CVPI Tire Advice

I have a 2000 CVPI in need of replacement tires. While having a flat tire fixed I discussed new tires with clerk and he said the police version required V rated tires or the handling would be severely affected. The Eagle RS-A replacements retail for $220 each, I wanted something less expensive. Anyone have any recommendations or suggestions based on their own experience? Any responses will be appreciated.

Re: CVPI Tire Advice

If you want it to handle like a PI then yes the tires the clerk says, but I like my 215/75/R15 Kelly Charger. Run them at 30 PSI for a smooth ride or 40 PSI for great handling. About $75-$120 a tire depending on what you by with it and what place. The police tires arnt that special, you can find many speed and load tires with good tread design for cheaper. Just look around.

Re: CVPI Tire Advice

just get a good tire like a Cooper Lifeliner touring SLE. i have been driving p71 crown vics as taxi cabs for five years and these are the only tires I'd recommend buying. They are H/V speed rated (130/149 mph) and have 50,000 mile tread. You can't ask for a harder wearing better riding and handling tire. I almost forgot to mention that their inexpensive too.
