New to this forum. Just bought a 96 GM LS with 65k miles. I have seen several threads about the plastic intake manifold. Can someone clue me in to this problem? Is it a very common problem and at what mileage does it normally fail? Are there any other areas I need to pay special attention to? thanks David

If there's no history of the engine getting overly hot the intake is good for 100,000 mile's or more. They tend to dryout with over heating and age alike which make them brittle. And yes it's a common problem and not only on the G.M.'s.
