confused EATC Controller [Holland]

First of all I'd like to introduce myself.

My name is Vincent Cornelis, I'm from Holland, 24 years old, and I own a 1997 Mercury Grand Marquis LS.
I bought it 1,5 month ago and really love the ride!
It has work to do on it, but i like to fiddle around

Today my EATC Controller decided to stop working. First the only setting that was still operative was HIGH and after fiddling with the Controller it started working again! This stayed this way for approximately 5 minutes and then it died all together.
When I put the turning wheel up to HIGH the system resets itself and tries again but keeps resetting.

Now looking for a replacement part I came to the conclusion that i needed the following part number: 'F8VZ-19E624-BC'
This includes the Controller and the needed wiring.
It will set me back $149,- without shipment.

Looking further I found the '8W7Z-19E624-A controller wich looks the same to me but appears to be slightly cheaper! Costs around $55,- without shipment.
Probably the parts wont be the same, but I am not able to find an answer for this.

Going by junkyards is not really an option around here in Holland because there aren't to many MGM's around here.

If someone here can help me further along in my search I would be vary grateful!

Thanks in advance,

Vincent

[P.S. If you know a good place to buy these parts and if they also ship to Holland I'd like to know! I really can't find much on the internet for this part! Found only 1 Ebay Seller.. ]

Re: EATC Controller [Holland]

The 8W7Z-19E624-A is for 2000 and up. It shouldn't work on your car. Does it go from heat to cool or is the fan the only part not working correctly?

Re: EATC Controller [Holland]

Only the fan part isn't working. Can still set the right temperature and the right way to circulate the air.

Thanks for your quick reply!

Re: EATC Controller [Holland]

Have you checked the blower itself? Here's a wiring diagram for that part of the circuit. Maybe it will help.

Re: EATC Controller [Holland]

Thanks for your help so far,
I'll shoot some pictures tomorrow of the controller, you can really see it's defect. There were sparks flying at a certain point when i switched the fan wheel.
Sorry for my late reaction, lots of work

Re: EATC Controller [Holland]

So I finally took 2 pictures of the controller:

On the first image you can see that one of the connectors is fried...
It was sparking when i was testing it out of it's housing.

Would that mean the whole controller would be bad now or is it possible to find the Motorola MJ11028 darlington transistor and replace this?

Thanks again!

Re: EATC Controller [Holland]

I'm not sure on the transistor replacement. If I was into electronics, i could say. All Ive done is replace the unit. Let us know the outcome.

Re: EATC Controller [Holland]

Will do, found a place where they sell the transistor for 10 euro's!
The whole controller costs 470 euro's at the local ford dealer here...

You or any one else don't happen to know wich other parts and the part numbers are on the controller by any chance?

Re: EATC Controller [Holland]

Has been a while but my ventilation is working again :D
Boy I missed that!

Did have to get a spare controller from a scrapyard though..
The transistor selling place only sold them by the 100..
When I first tried that part it was only working at high-speed only again, so i went to check the wiring wich seemed ok.
After I accidentally made a connection with the metal of the multimeter on one of the pins it was working completely!
I re-solded the pin that was not working correctly and I have got my ventilation back!

Thanks for your help on this matter!

Vincent
