my 2003 crown vic recently developed a gas leak in the filter area. upon jacking it up and removing the old filter i found a mangled o ring. i have tried everything that i know of to get the new o ring into the connector without folding up on itself and pushing right through any ideas. secondly it appears that the i.d. of the inlet connector is slightly larger than the exit one .is that normal sam

I've never had a problem with an O'ring in the lines. I don't even know how they are in there. If like most internal O'rings, you'd have to use a hook to help pop it in place. As far as sizes, they are both the same size.

How long ago was the filter changed out? Is the leak at the larger appearing connector? It's possible that someone changed it out with a wrong size connector. My '00 has 5/16" connectors but there are also 1/4" and 3/8". It would seem that a larger one would leak right away though.
