Gear ratio

Hey guys, just wondering what the gear ratio is in a 92 crown vic and if I can replace that rearend with one out of a newer interceptor. Is it worth doing or just a waste of time?

Re: Gear ratio

If the rear end will bolt in then of course you can . .the only change will be it the ratio is higher or lower then the original . .you can look at the pinion gear on the end that faces the ring gear and the ratio should be stamped on that

Re: Gear ratio

Police: 3.27, civilian: 2.73, but as far as bolting up, should be the same, unless there was a radical change in the shell.

Re: Gear ratio

3:27's are also in cars with HPP. They are interchangeable with 2:73's.

Re: Gear ratio

Have to look at door sticker where it says AX . . The ratio can be anything like 2.55, 2.73, 3.08, 3.27, or 3.55 . . Those gears can be open or trac-lok also depending on code given . Usually 3.55 trac-loks were in wagons, limos, or tow package & known as "K" code rears . Have to check code on door of car or metal tag on diff. cover . . The rear is a 8.8" & can have 3.73 or 4.10 installed also, but will cause higher rpm at highway speed
