i was told there was an amp on my 2001 grand marquis ls and im looking to upgrade the system. where is this am located, or can i integrate the amp into the system

If you have the Premium Sound System then yes you do have an amp. You will also have a sub, they are in a unit that mounts onto the underside of the rear shelf between the rear 6x9s, you should see it next to your spare tire. I don't know if you can or how easy it would be to use it in an aftermarket system.

if you want to be 100% sure, you could ask someone at a shop that dose radio installs, they should be able to help.

is it a fairly large unit because there isnt much there except some small what looks like anti theft modules. and is there any kind of speaker amp... not subwoofer because i want to replace the deck and i dont want the amp interfering

if your GM has the amp it will be on the far right side on the back of the trunk (when I replaced my head unit I had to rewire my whole system to bypass the amp mostly because I couldn't find a amp bypass for this car :-D) Just set aside about 5-6 hrs to do it right
