Got a 01 P71 vic and I'm lokking for HP

Hi yall,



This week i went and had the catalytic converters looked at because of some noise. The guy said the two main ones where bad so I just had him cut those out and put in a straight pipe. The car has dual exhaust and there where two smaller cats up before the bigger ones. so since i had him take off on cat on each side I still got the smaller ones on. Anyway my main reason for telling this story is because someone told me i would get a 40 hp boost because of this. The car does seem to have more pickup I was just wondering if 40 hp is a good estimate. Ever since I got the car people have told me the Vic does have some good power in it, especially the P71. So since I just got this HP boost its making me more hungry for power. LOL So basically I'm looking for some guidance on what to do next. I'm thinking better air intake? Flowmasters? I hear the Marauder airbox is good, but would i get as good or better from one of those cone jobs? Anyway any advice you all have on headers, gears, chips, you name it, please give some advice. Even thought about dropping a Stang engine in there. Same block right? Anyway i appreciate any advice.

Replace the cats correctly. Either with the original direct-replacement 2-chamber design, or aftermarket single-chamber cats.



The car is already built for peak performance with excellent reliability - mess with it & you'll probably lose some of both.

Open-element air filters are an advertising scam, like fuel line magnets. The Marauder filter box & '04-up zip tube help a little, but to get noticeable benefit, they require the larger MAF & a custom chip, which is a fairly involved mod. Not for beginners.

Loud mufflers are just annoying - they don't increase power, economy, or comfort.

If you want to change engines, you can make a Mustang 4.6L SC work, but a Marauder engine is built for this chassis.
