is off on the front passenger door. The rivet is broken that holds the power door lock switch?, module?, whatever it's called. The part seems to be OK, it just needs to be reattached to the door. Can someone tell me the best way to fix it? Any help would be appreciated.

Picture??? Post a picture of what you are taliking about. If it was originally attached by a rivet, replace it with a rivet. Just knock out or drill out the remains then reinstall with a new rivet using a rivet gun.

We've had people use a lock nut and short bolt but it's hard to get to to do it.

There's not much room to work inside the door.
The real problem is the broken off rivet is stuck in the bracket of the power door lock.

Hi, remove the lock actuator, take the bracket off, and drive out, or drill out the pop rivet. Even with a proper 1/4" pop rivet you might need for someone to hold the lock actuator in place so you can rivet it back on again. I have used 1/4" X 1/2" long bolts and nuts, for this job, but on some cars this is nearly impossible to do. If the lock actuator is binding or the rubber boot is torn or gone, more than likely the actuator is junk and will need to be replaced with a new part. [or just remove it altogether]

I was able to unhook the actuator from the linkage. I then used my dremel tool to remove the broken off rivet from the bracket. With the help of double back tape and some duct tape I secured the nut and lock washer to the backside of the bracket. I hooked the actuator back onto the linkage and then installed a 5/8" long 1/4" diameter bolt with a flat washer and tightened her down. She (GF) was fortunate it was just a broken rivet. The actuator was fine.
