Grinding Noise on a 1998 CV--Grease Fittings? - Ford Forums

Hi all,

Can anyone tell me if a '98 CV has chassis grease fittings? I found a diagram for a '93, but it doesn't seem to match up. I can't find any on my own. The car is making a grinding noise when I cut the wheel hard to the left. (usually worse if I'm on uneven ground.)

Does anyone know what this could be?

If you've got grinding going on in any ball joint, tie rod, drag link, or idler arm, you're way past the point of grease solving the problem. Grease is only a temporary solution at this point. However, off all those components, the one most likely to make a grinding or creaking noise is the idler arm. If it does have a grease fitting and greasing makes any difference in the sound, that's your problem. But don't lull yourself into thinking that it's fixed. Replace it.

It doesn't look like there are any grease fittings under the 98 CV. Do you have any idea what component would only make the noise when making a U-turn or cutting the wheel hard on uneven ground?

Hi, my cv started doing that noise and i added grease. The noise when away and my lower arm came off @ 60MPH. My advise is replace it, ASAP ball joints are like $100 a pice. Hope it helps.
