I drive a 1998 Ford Crown Vic police car...when the tranny gets hot, it seems to slip....what could be the problem?

Is the OD light flashing? That's how the transmission throws its codes. Have you checked the fluid? Sounds like it's old and in need of a change.

I agree with dryelf327. Check the fluid with the engine running and warm first. If it is brown and nasty, then try a flush if the OD light is not flashing.

.......Thanks guys, I thought that it might really be something big....also the od light does not even work it never has since I've had it. And as of right now, it has almost 229,000 on it.

These trannys are good for about 200k. With that mileage it might be on its way out and I would be weary of changing the fluid as it might do more harm than good.
