confused Help 1991 Ford LTD Oil pan

Hi, I'm new to the forum. I have a 1991 Ford LTD that needs to have the oil pan removed & replaced. The engine is a 5.0 with an automatic transmission. My question is, and all comments and suggestions will be appreciated, can the oil pan be removed without pulling the engine? The oil pan is a double hump kind. What is the best method for relpacing the oil pan.

Thanks,
Banjo

I'll admit that I've never done this before, so I'm not absolutely positive, but I think people have done it before by loosening the motor mounts and jacking the engine up slightly. It's worth a shot, and if it doesn't work, you have to loosen the motor mounts to get the engine out, anyway.

Thanks much. I have the engine jacked up so high that the plenum is almost touching the firewall. Still can't get the pan out but have removed the oil pump and oil pickup tube. Have not rotated the engine yet to work the pan out, however, it looks and feels that I am still to low.

If it would help, you can remove the upper intake manifold...that isn't that hard.

Re: Help 1991 Ford LTD Oil pan

At this point I think it is easier to just pull the engine. The value cover on the right side is touching the firewall housing so can't really go any higher without removing some windshield washer stuff and the plenum. Have disconnected the converter to exhaust manifold, removed the exhaust crossover tubing, and the downstream thermatic tubing that runs to the right exhaust pipe.

If I pull the engine, I still have several things to complete.

What a job.

Thanks,
Banjo
