I have a 2001 Crwn Vic that sometimes will stop running. The car will turn over but not start. After sitting for awhile it will start and run fine. It could be a week before it dies again. No check engine light. No codes stored. I have changed plugs (autolite plat) and fuel filter. I am kind of at a loss.
Suggestions.......

When it fails to start, does it turn over but not start? or does it not even turn over? When it fails to start do you have spark? A little more info helps a whole lot!

It turns over. After about 15 minutes to an hour it will start up as if nothing was wrong. No check engine light. I do have a computer to check codes nothing stored.

When it fails to start, do you have spark? If you have good spark then give it a shot of starting fluid and see if it starts with that. If it starts with that, then it should be fuel related.

Does it have an electronic dizzy ?
if so I suspect the module

It has cop's so I am not sure about having spark, but I assume so because it does start after sitting.

What is electronic dizzy?

Does this car have a crankshaft positioning sensor? If so i would bet my money on that...

Yes it has a crank position sensor but I beleive if that failed I would have a check engine light with codes.
I talked to the service department at the dealer and we both agreed that it may be the IAC valve. I replaced it today. If it goes for more than ten days without it dieing, then I think I will have a winner. I will post progress.

well on my girlfriend's malibu a similar problem occured and it was the fuel pump relay. Can you hear the fuel pump power up when you turn the key on?

I can hear it now. I don't remember if I heard it when would not start. Would her car go for a week or so between no starts?
