Hi all I just bought a 1999 crown vic p71 CEL on with these codes

So I bought the car for 1500 and the body and interior are in really good shape but the check engine light is on and it pulled codes P0420, P0305, P0306, the car has 174k on it and has had the intake manifold replaced on it already. Anyway the car runs like crap shakes like its got a big cam in it but it doesnt. and barely has the power to get out of its own way. Any help would be great. oh and where the intake manifold is it looks wet.

P0305 and P0306 are the misfire on 5 and 6. P0402 is cat efficiency, probably due to the misfire. They are known for coil packs going out. You can switch them with others and see if the misfire changes with them. Unhook the fuel injector on the cyl to see if the miss changes. Pull the spark plugs and see how they look. Make sure to use a torque wrench. too tight and when the aluminum cyl head expands, it'll pull the threads.

Welcome to the forums.

Where is it wet? Can you tell what the wet stuff is? If you could post a picture of it, that may help too.

And it still cranked? Just having one bad coil made my car feel like the transmission was going to fall from under the car..

They were almost one after another in the firing order. Makes the really seem rough.

Re: Hi all I just bought a 1999 crown vic p71 CEL on with these codes

Try jacking up the rear and runnibg it to see if you can hear the noise. Then you'll know more about where to look. Try servicing the transmission first. Yours has a drain plug on the torque convertor and with the filter, it would take 10½ qt, of fluid. Thats almost all of it. How does the fluid look on the dipstick? The transmissions are set for a particular year and would probably take a lot to make it work. So much computer control anymore. If you want to search for a used tranny, try here but get the numbers from yours first. Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market
