i recently bought a 1990 grand marquis with 98000 miles. the car sat for past 6-9 months other than being started every once in awhile to keep battery charged because previous owner was ill. every thing seems ok other than that overdrive shudder i see others have talked about on the site and slight hesitation sometimes in overdrive. but there is a high pitch hum coming from the rear of the car it goes away sometimes but is almost always there. any thoughts on what this might be

From my experience, I have found it is the fuel sending unit/fuel pump, i have owned a 1987, 1992, 1993 all with the same hum

does this mean it is going bad? ive had a few go bad on me but never had a hum before. is this just the noise they make. I just had to change one a couple weeks ago in the escort i'm hoping i dont have to change another one. its starting to get cold out here and the garage doors need to stay open on this job so if it is i need to change it pretty soon

it just seems to be that way i have replace them in two of my cars and they always hum. as long as its humming it working
