How do I loosen the serpantine belt on 03 Marauder?

The idler pulley is squeeking quite badly and I want to loosen the belt and remove the pulley to examine it and grease it. How do I loosen the belt? Any other things to look for as far as the squeek? Thanks.

Bluesky636,

It's a common problem. I had that noise too and ended up just replacing the idler pully assembly. There should be a small square in the idler pully arm assembly. Put a ratchet in the hole and pull/push until you can slip the belt off. I put on a Gatorback belt on when I changed the Idler. No noise since.

Thanks. I got the idler pully off no problem. Did not have to replace it. Turns out there is a rubber plug on the top of the housing that holds the big-ass spring inside that is used to put tension on the belt. I pulled the plug and filled the inside of the spring housing with white lithium grease and no more squeels!

Bill,

Good job! You can get a lot of Marauder specific info on MercuryMarauder.net . There are also regional/state groups you can be a part of. Marauderville VI will be in St. Louis this year. I attended Marauderville IV in Kississimee, FL in 2006 and had a great time.

All of my show time is taken up by my 1964 Ford Galaxie.

The Marauder is really my wife's car. I posted this same question on mm.net.
