Unless you have REALLY tiny hands and your arm bends in 4 places, I cant get to the upper shock bolt off. The top of the shock goes thru a cross member, which is up against the bottom of the trunk.
Do i need to cut holes in bottom of trunk to get to top bolt of shock or do I have to lift the body off the frame? Or Does not one ever replace them.
Another Great Design Ford.
Help.
hi, on my 1997 grand marquis i took the bottom bolt off let the shock extend, then put a wrench on the top bolt and got it to lock up there against the car body. then i put a pair of channel locks on the shaft of the shock shaft and turned it off the top nut. i was installing new shocks so i was not worrying about wrecking the old ones.
Easiest thing is to cut holes thru the trunk to access and a vice grip to lock into the center stud and held again or side of the hole you make then you can go underneath and remove the shock with another wrench. you may be able to do this from the inside of the trunk all together.
