Just bought a 93 grand Marquis LS ...

Hiyya everyone , i want to first introduce myself . My name is frank but just call me Mr. Spock . I have lurked around here for a while now but i finaly decided to properly join yesterday in the hopes of learning all i can about my new ( well , new to me car )

I just bought a 1993 Grand Marquis LS with 112,000 mile on the clock and the car looks like it has been very well looked after and passed the safety inpection without needing one thing done to it . Everything works very well on the car including the AC , all windows , no engine noises , no suspension noises , no creeks or rattles at all . The interior is cloth and while it will need a cleaning , it is otherwise in very nice shape . The only thing i found on the car was the starting of some rust bubbles under the paint on the outside top of three of the fenders but am haing this fixed in the next week or so . The trany oil was a nice cherry red as it is in the bottle and the engine oil was very clean as well . I looked inside the oil filler cap and found it to be very clean under there as well .

I would very much appreciate any additional advice regarding this car for the future as i plan on keeping it for a few years . Oh yes , i bought the car for a huge sum of $2500.00 CDN funds or about $ 1700.00 USA funds .

thanks,
spock

Hi Mr. Spock and welcome...GMs of that age (mine is a 94) tend to rust (in Canada anyway) above the wheel wells, particularly the fronts. Suggest you get a reputable repair done and Crown rustproof it evey year...good luck.

The biggest problem I have ever seen with crown vics is the AOD tends to loose its over drive and the A/C system goes dry empty. Over then that if the car has been maintained good you'll have no other probs.

Re: Just bought a 93 grand Marquis LS ...

Hiyya everyone , thanks for the replies so far . yes , the wheel wells DO have the dreded rust just above the whell as mentioned but i have already made agrangments to have this repaired AND rustproofed to stop or at the very least , slow down considerably the spreading of the rust . As for the AC system , it is working JUST FINE and blows at sub arctic temps ... just as i LOVE it .

what i want to do however is to purchase the following items for thee car : The chrome febder trim that goes just above each wheel on the fender , a full set of the rain guards for the windows and the wind deflector that goes on the hood of the car ... may also be called a stone deflector . I will be adding an upgraded sound system to the car as i LOVE my tunes and in thee spring , i will look for a set of new or very close to new ALLOY rims like those used for the GM's with thee handling pkg . or the 95-00 years ( I think they are called cross laced or honey combed ) My rims are also alloy now and have some pitting on them which i have already cleaned up but i want to have it as clean as possible so this is why i am going with newer rims .

I just shampooed the interior of the car and was very happy as to how clean it came out . I dare say that is is actually very close to as new ... close , very close . the next thing i want to do is a major engine detail but am not too sure of what is the best thing to use to accomplish this to make it look pristine . I welcome sugestions here . I am also going to black out all the windows of the car with in the next week or so .

One thing that has me baffled however is the following and again , i welcome input here . On some occasions , on the digital dash readout , i will occasionaly see the letters CO where the information center redout is located and the fuel gauge readout will show TWO bars on the top of the guage range as well as TWO bars on the bottom with the remaining bars unlit . I have alos observed that sometimes the OUTSIDE temp will show -30 or -40 reading but seems to correct itself after a few hours . I am not too concerned about this yet but am wondering if this is indicitive of a more serious problem either present or future .

Well , i have blabbed and gabbed long enough so , it's to do more cleaning .

Thanks y'all

Re: Just bought a 93 grand Marquis LS ...

When I fill the tank ("94) I get the two bars top and bottom until it burns a couple of gallons off, then it sows correctly...a glitch in the electronicd I guess.

I recently purchased a 94 grand marquis LS with a digital dash and i am getting the same problem. I would like to know if CO is what is supposed to be displayed when the tank is full or if it is a problem. The strange thing is occasionally the readout will display something for a quick second but it will display the amount of gas i had before i filled up the tank. If anyone knows anything about the CO thing i would love to hear it.

Thanks

Re: Just bought a 93 grand Marquis LS ...

Ditto on the CO code in the fuel gauge . . .

I just bought a 95 Grand Marquis and filled it up for the first time and noticed it too showed CO with two bars at the top and two at the bottom of the gauge. When I test drove it, and up until I filled it up, it originally had 16 gallons of fuel which slowly went down to 4 gallons as I continued to drive it, at which point I filled it up. That's when the CO code showed up and I started looking around these forums for any info on it.

I see one post stated his gauge started reading normally once a couple gallons of fuel were consumed, which I hope will be the case with me. Otherwise, I'm just wondering what the cause is and what it will cost to fix it . . .
