Just picked up a 2003 Grand Marquis with keyless entry. The owners manual makes reference to a card in the glove bax which contains the number for the keyless entry system. It wasn't in the car.
I went to the dealer and they said it was taped to the ECM but it would take 1 hour labor to get to it. They also said that they could extract the info from the computer but that would run $45.00. After paying $116.00 for a programmed spare key I told them I would make do without the code for now.
How hard is it to get to the ECM to find the 5 digit code? DIY-able? Is there any way to trigger the computer to spit out the info? Is there a Mercury website where they can extrapolate the code from the VIN?
The computer is not hard to get to and take out. For the best results go get a Haynes manual from Autozone or Advance. They are less than $20 and you'll have it for future references on just about anything,it'll tell you how to do those things that the dealer likes to stick it to you over.
The code to my door is on a white sticker attached for the driver side trunk hinge arm. Can't miss it, I have a 96. I don't know if yours would be like that. Good luck
AlabamaQk, I'm from Montgomery. Small world is'nt it
For a Tech to look up that code would take about 30 seconds, so if they are going to charge you $45 after you already paid them to program keys then I wouldn't be taking to them too much anymore. I look up keyless entry codes for free all the time.

Thanks for the info about the time necessary. I look for another dealer and take my business there.
