Left Me Stranded

Well, the good ole Merc left me stranded in the middle of an intersection today. She was running A1 and then when I went to leave a stop sign, she just decided to cut out. For the first couple minutes it would just crank and crank with no end in sight. I pushed it to a parking lot and after sitting for about 10 minutes, she cranked a few times and fired, but I wouldn't call what it was doing "running"...she just kinda chugachugged for a few seconds and died as soon as I put any pressure on the gas pedal. After another 10 minutes, same deal... Had a friend come and pick me up and now I'm waiting on a fuel pressure gauge and a ride back to the car. Any other ideas to check if its not the fuel system? Thanks in advance

Re: Left Me Stranded

Got "0"psi on the fuel pressure, all fuses/relays are good, can't hear the pump priming...looks like I'm changing a f#!%@&g fuel pump

Any tips on making this go as smoothly as possible?

Re: Left Me Stranded

Hardest part is probably dropping the gas tank.

Re: Left Me Stranded

Yeah, that's the part I'm dreading because I just put $40 in it an hour before it died. On an old LTD I used to have, I cut an access hole in the trunk to get to the top of the tank(probably not the best idea in hindsight, but I was young and dumb)...I'm not cutting up my Merc though.

Re: Left Me Stranded

How hard is it to attach a new pump to the old sending unit? Never done it before.

Re: Left Me Stranded

Me neither. Any fuel I've changed was on the frame rail.

Re: Left Me Stranded

I don't drop the tank. Not necessary . How much gas is in it? Sending unit unbolt sand can be wiggled out. Sometimes have to pry exhaust over a little. Other than that just fishing the wire for the fuel tank pressure sensor out.

Re: Left Me Stranded

Oh and putting pump on sending unit no big deal. Pretty self explanatory once it's out.

Re: Left Me Stranded

Its got about a half tank in it so I really don't want to drop it if I don't have to. You wouldn't happen to have any pictures of the way you do it without dropping the tank would you? Thanks for the info

Re: Left Me Stranded

I'm sorry I do not. At half tank could lose a little taking sending unit out with tank in car but I still prefer that method.
