Losing hot air

'95 Grand Marquis / 4.6L

Our family inherited this car from my grandfather when he passed away in March. Now, speed up to this recent snowstorm...

My mother was driving up our slick driveway and overrevved the crap outta the engine. Now, there is no hot air coming out of the dash or any vents, just lukewarm air. If anyone has any idea what this could be, I'd appreciate the help.

Thanks everyone.

Re: Losing hot air

I just had a similar problem. I was about to go deep and take apart the wind tunnels for the heater core to check the actuator. (replaced the heater core once and no fun) Surfing the forum there was mention of taking out the control panel for the environment controls. Remove the two connectors from the back where the vacuum lines come in. Plug back in and turn key for power. It does some kink of reset and BAM! I able to adjust my heat and air once again. Hope this helps.

Re: Losing hot air

follow up: to get to the control panel, remove the trim, pops off, four screws hold the control panel in. Should take you all of 15 min. to do.

Re: Losing hot air

Is then engine getting up to operating temp? Are you sure the thermostat is not stuck open?

Re: Losing hot air

Yeah we already replaced the thermostat. Maybe the system has an air bubble in it? Thought we bled it properly...theres no bleeder valve right?

Re: Losing hot air

btw i dont think the engine is getting up to operating temp because the temp gauge needle is just barely above the C.

thermostats can be bad out of the box.

my only experienec with and air bubbble is that it made the temp gauge fluctuate wildly.

as far as trapped air, all I have ever done is park it on a incline (pointing up) after it is "hot", let it cool, and top off the coolant. I would THINK that should do it...but then I am NOT the alst word....

Re: Losing hot air

a little advice, get a thermostat from FORD only, cheep aftermarket ones cause problems (trust me I know!!!!) and they are only a few dollars cheeper anyway. Also fords are very bad and well known for air locking so be sure to fill the coolant in the engine as much as you can, and make sure all the air is out!
