Thought this was kind of weird...Yesterday on my way home from the lake, my "miles to empty" said I had 66 miles left...parked the car for 30 minutes or so and had to leave again...when I started her back up, it said I had 73 miles left...stopped and put $10 in the gas tank, started the car and it said I had 69 left????? What the hell is going on there? What would cause the fluctuating numbers? If the "miles to empty" is wrong, does that mean my actual fuel gauge is wrong as well?

Usually on most cars nowadays the distance to empty changes depending on how you're driving which can cause variations after stopping . Also the computer sometimes under different circumstances can take a short while to reset and calculate your mileage .It like all computers , probably a glitch . My wife had the same sort of " fault " yesterday after filling up and said it didn't change till she had a driven a liitle way down the road and this is on a three week old Ford . Honestly dont think its anything to get concerned about unless it gets worse and happens more often .

It was going all wacko again yesterday, but today has been steady and right around where I thought it should be. It may have always done that but I never noticed it before. Thanks for the reply

it determines driving habits along with what the float registers is in the tank... depending how car is sitting will make float read different... i wouldnt worry much
