New Member Help With Heater Core

Guys and Gals...

I'm a new member from South Louisiana and need help. My name is Louis and I'm a chemical engineer. I'm a graduate of LSU class of 1992 and own my own small business. THis is a great forum as I've visited it in the past but never registered as a user until now... There is some great folks here with some great information. Hopefully someone can help me out...

I have a 99 Grand Marquis with a leaking Heater Core. I know that it's a big job to change, but I never bring my vehicles to the shop to have them worked on so I'm going to tackle this one myself as always.

I put some quick fix in it a couple days ago, but I know that it's not good for the cooling system. Besides, it's still fogging up a little indicating that it's still leaking a little bit...

Can anyone point me to a post or a link that has some details about changing this heater core? I have a Haynes manual, but it's pretty vague. From what I can tell pretty much the whole dash had to be taken out or dropped including the STEERING COLUMN...

I'm sure there's a post here about the Crown Vic/ Grand Marquis heater core, but I looked and looked and couldn't find anything. PLEASE HELP !!!

Thanks,
The Chemist..

Re: New Member Help With Heater Core

I did the heat core on my 1996 and it was not fun. Having done one I would start with taking the two front seats out right from the beginning. Then there is a black vent that goes to the back seats that will have to be removed. When I got the dashboard loose I strapped it to the bottom of the roof. If I remember right I did not take the steering column out but loosen it so it rotated down towards the floor. The local mechanic did not want the job but said he would do it for a thousand dollars.
