Hello all...my first post...just purchased a '94 GM (84,000 miles) that has developed a "chug", as if it's not getting fuel, when I accelerate. It cruises fine and mileage is good (25-27mpg). I have the car's maintenance history and air and fuel filters are recent...so will start with least expensive...injector cleaner (recomendations for brand?)...pvc valve...and work my way up...plug wires look original so it could be right there...car spent all winters in Florida, is in nice shape and really appreciate the comfort and ride...a great car! I checked all 20 page of posts and noticed on one something about a sponge filter on the mass air flow??...also see K&N air filters mentioned...

Any suggestions?

O2 sensors and MAF sensor. Egr valve maybe clogged.

I would run some seafoam through the engine that stuff works really good i would not use anything else. and i would get some electronic parts cleaner to clean the MAF. and i would also change the spark plugs and wires.

There shouldn't be a filter of any sort on/in the MAF. Also, the chugging you describe may be an ignition miss. With 10-year old original spark plug wires, this is a definite possibility.

Note that the original style spark plug boots (including the 1994 MY) were known to fail when shorted out from the spark burning through the plastic extension tube where the boot's terminal plugged onto the spark plug.

Note that the newer style (ie. 1997 MY) spark plug wires are significantly improved over OEM 1994 MY wires.
