confused Newby, with tranny problem

Hey every one I just got on today. I have a 1992 CV PI with 69,000 on it picked it up cheap.
Runs like a dream, clean and impsoing on the road... that was until my tranny took a dump. I was on the Angeles Crest driving along and came to a stop sign. I took off and noticed that the car was shuddering I got it back down and it continued to shudder and was progressivly getting worse. I got it home, took off drive shaft and noticed movement where the driveshaft meets up with output shaft, radial play, not rotational or longitudinal, radial about 1/4 inch. I dont know if I can just replace my tail housing all together but if anyone has any idea I would greatly appreciate the info.

David

Re: Newby, with tranny problem

Are you saying that there's play between the driveshaft and the slip yoke?

Re: Newby, with tranny problem

There is play, with the drive shaft off, in the out-put shaft side to side.

When you say "slip yoke" I take it you are referring to the first part of the drive shaft that slips freely on the out put shaft? That is fine there is no problem with the male or female splines.
