No more O/D

Hi everybody I am new to the site and could really use some advice. I have a 1994 Crown Vic LX with about 187000 miles on it. It has been in the family since new and has been great. Not a single major problem. However on a recent trip to Mexico after stopping for gas I was no longer able to get into O/D. After 3rd it just revs to the limiter. Fortuanly for me the speed limit is 65 all the way home so I made it back in 3rd. I am confident working on engines and have plenty of experience but when it comes to transmissions I am lost. Any Ideas of what could be wrong? Thanks

Mike

Re: No more O/D

sounds like the O/D band is worn out. Very common problem in these transmissions.
The only way to fix it is pull the transmission, remove the pan and valve body, remove the O/D servo assembly, pull the front pump and intermediate clutch pack. then you can access the O/D band and replace it.
