I have a leak on my '92 Grand Marquis at the the drain of the Oil Filter. I pulled the plug and wrapped it with Teflon tape and this seem to fix the problem for a couple of days but the leak is back. I found a note at 1992-2005 Mercury Grand Marquis Reliability
that the oil pump relief valve would cause the Oil Filter to balloon.

If it is the relief valve not relieving the pressure properly, how do I resolve the problem? Is the valve inside the oil pump and would this require replacing the pump or could the relief valve be replaced?

Has anyone had a similar issue?

What drain are you talking about on the oil filter? It just threads on there, the only way to drain it is to remove the filter...
