confused oily spark plugs

Help! I have a "check engine light" on my Crown Vic. I changed the spark plugs today and some of the spark plugs had oil on them. A couple of them had ALOT of oil on them. What's up with that? I thought it would fix my "Check Engine" light but it did not.

Re: oily spark plugs

Was the oil on the upper part and still oliy or was it burnt oil on the tip? Take it to Autozone or Advanced Auto parts and have the pull the codes. They don't charge for that.

Re: oily spark plugs

That's not a good sign. How many miles are on it? Has it been overheated? Has it been serviced regularly?

Re: oily spark plugs

It has 151,000 miles, it hasn't overheated and it hasn't been serviced recently. I was going to take it to get serviced but I want to find out what this issue is before they tell me something off the wall and CRAZY expensive.

Re: oily spark plugs

Actually, both sides closest to firewall are the worst, the next two aren't as bad and so on.

Re: oily spark plugs

that is usually the worst due to the design of the intake... that is usually the ones that get the oil sucked into first from blow by and such... i would check to make sure the vent systems and such on your car are in working order since it seems it may be from oil blow by getting sucked in

Re: oily spark plugs

Make sure the vent systems are in working order? Hmm, how would I check that?
